Behind the Scenes:
Ascot Racecourse
“The PPA model essentially means that Ortus fund the capital investment into the installation which means that Ascot don't have to provide any capital up front, it just made sense from an economical point of view.”
Stuart Rider, Estates manager, Ascot
The installation at Ascot is one of UK sport’s largest rooftop solar installations. Comprising of more than 1,200 solar panels, with a total capacity of 608kWp, the system has been designed so that almost 100% of the electricity generated is used on-site.
This off-sets around 9% of Ascot’s annual electricity consumption.
The result: A 608kW solar system delivering measurable cost savings and improved sustainability performance.
“This marks another important step in the racecourse’s sustainability journey.”

Atlas Copco Deeside
£100k annual savings
We went on-site at Atlas Copco Deeside to hear from those leading energy strategy on the ground.
In this Ortus Energy special, Alex Bell (General Manager) and Elle Bryan (SHE Engineer) share how rising energy costs—and the need for greater independence from the grid, prompted a shift in approach.
The conversation explores:
- The real impact of energy price volatility on industrial operations
- Why on-site generation is becoming a strategic priority
- How a fully funded PPA made the project viable, where capex may not have
The result: £100k annual energy savings and greater control over long-term costs.
At a time of increasing energy uncertainty, this is a clear example of how businesses are building resilience through proactive energy strategy.
